Where to go from last week's surf? Well how about a little A to Z of Christmas free music. Falling under 'A' would be my first selection, Steve Kimock's "Why Cant's We All Just Samba". Hey, it ends with an 'A', that counts in my book. This particular 27 minute version is from April 28, 2001 at Martyrs in Chicago.
From here we'll skip to J. Actually to J.B. in honor of Mr. Brown himself and his regretful passing early yesterday morning. Thank you.
A little Santana to follow this up, first with Song of the Wind and following that up with Flame Sky, a personal favorite of mine...
What's left now? Zee. Or as they say in the motherland, "zed". Project Z comes in with "Rainbow". Jimmy Herring on guitar is one of the best out there playing today...His resumé is full of serious accomplishments. From playing with Aquarium Rescue Unit to Phil Lesh's Phil and Friends with a stop along the way with the Allman Brothers and The Dead. Most recently he was recruited to fill the vacant lead guitar slot with Widespread Panic.
One more 'Z' for ya...starts with an 'F' and ends with 'rank Zappa'. We've got "Ride My Face to Chicago" followed up by a trilogy consisting of "Camarillo Brillo>Muffin Man>Illinois Enema Bandit". All of the above recorded live in 1984 on the first of September at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. I just wanted to play Muffin Man but the other tracks are nestled so nicely around it that I had to include the whole thing. On a related note, if you've got my copy of Frank Zappa "Guitar" I sure would like to get it back, thanks. ENJOY!
